It was 1978 and I was graduating from high school. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. Having seen something in me that I hadn’t yet, my mother told me I was going to beauty school. This endeavor would shape the next 30 years of my life. I worked behind the chair for 15 years when I decided to take my career in a new direction. I worked for a product company called Sorbie. This was great because I was able to work very closely with the four time, “British Hairdresser of the Year”, Trevor Sorbie. This took me to all parts of America and to England for training. My responsibilities were to train other stylists in the northeast region and to take photographs of my work. My job required that my photos be published, which led to me receiving nominations for the North American Hairdresser Awards, known as NA HA in the industry. In all, I received 3 nominations, 3 years in a row. Although I didn’t win a trophy, it was a great honor to be nominated in a very competitive industry. I still have a strong desire to compete.
For now, my career has taken a business direction. Five years ago I opened “POSH”. This has been a life long dream. I currently employ 2 young stylists with enough energy and enthusiasm to keep us on the cutting edge in the industry. We are all well educated, motivated, and participate in ongoing training. After 30 years, I still feel the passion for the career my mom chose for me. Hair is always changing; the styles, the colors, the products. I intend to continue to help create my clients’ most valuable accessory, their hairstyle.
